Factors to Consider When Carrying Out a Pregnancy Facial When carrying out a facial treatment on a pregnant mother, you should consider the following factors:
If the expectant mother is suffering from morning sickness, avoid aromatherapy facial as this may make the condition worse.
Do not use harsh chemicals on expectant mothers; microdermabrasion and peels should also be avoided during this time.
Encourage the mother to speak up in case she feels any pain during the facial treatment as her skin is very sensitive. This will help in ensuring that the treatment is safe both for the mother and the unborn child.
Ensure that the ingredients that you will use in the facial treatment are safe so that you will not harm the mother and her unborn child. Do not use products that have toxins as these will harm the expectant mother. They may also penetrate through the mother’s skin and get to the child.
If you are carrying out a facial treatment, do not get her through a treatment that will make her body temperature go beyond 102.2 degrees. Getting the temperature above this will harm the unborn child.
If you are carrying out the treatment in a room where strong chemicals are being used on another client, ensure the room is well ventilated. If this is not possible, re-schedule the treatment until the smell of the strong chemicals goes away and the room is fresh again.
Before you do a complete facial on an expectant mother, ensure that you conduct a partial test on her so that you can determine the safety of the products you are going to use on her. If the products are safe, you can then proceed with the facial treatment.
Do your best to make the client look good and feel as comfortable as possible through the pregnancy journey. This is just for a while after which she will get back to her normal facial routines where you do not have to be too selective when deciding what products to use.
