Laser Hair Removal VS. Waxing: Which One Should You Choose
There are as many hair removal treatments as people. Every person has their preferred method for saying goodbye to those annoying pieces of hair growing on our bodies. Shaving, tweezing, waxing, and even the very scientific laser hair removal. Before continuing this article ask yourself: Which procedure I use the most? And, which one would you like to try? One of the most used methods is oh-so-crucifying shaving. I mean, how awful is to shave your legs every day or two!  And let’s not talk about tweezing. Having to separate and remove hair one by one is time-consuming. So, I guess you haven’t try and want to try either of the two that I haven’t mention. But, which one should you choose? Worry not! I’m here to help. Here are the differences between each procedure. We’re focusing on price, durability, and places where each treatment can be applied.
Let’s talk about price. It’s estimated that over a lifetime you’ll spend less in doing laser hair removal than waxing. We’re going to do a calculation based on the price per session of each procedure. Laser hair removal is more expensive than waxing. A laser hair removal session can cost around $250 or $300 dollars. Now, take into consideration that once you start it you’ll have to return every 7 or 8 weeks depending on how your hair is growing. A whole laser hair removal treatment takes about 5 sessions. So, on a year you’ll spend almost $2000 or $3000 dollars on laser hair removal.
Waxing is cheaper per session but more expensive throughout the year. The price of a session is calculated depending on the part of the body is being applied. Brazilian waxing tends to be the most expensive, costing around dollars per session. You’ll have to wax every 2 weeks. That means $160 per month, so, in a year, you’ll spend around $1920, and this is only the first year. Multiply that digit to 10 and you get 20,000. This means that in 10 years you’re going to spend $20,000 just for waxing! Unlike laser hair removal because this treatment is permanent. It’s very difficult that your hair grows back after finishing a whole treatment.
This leads us to talk about durability. As explained before, laser hair removal is a permanent procedure because the objective is to burn the hair follicle, resulting in no more hair, forever!
Waxing results are temporary. This procedure removes the root of the hair, but not the follicle per se. You’ll notice new hair growing back after 2 weeks, but this new hair is going to be much softer and manageable.
Now, let’s bring the subject of where can each treatment be used. Laser hair removal it’s recommended for almost every part of the body. We’re talking about: legs, back, neck, arms, armpits, and even upper lip (also known as the mustache zone). The only place where it’s not recommendable to get laser hair removal are the eyes because this is a very delicate area. Moreover, during laser hair removal treatments your doctor and you will have to use special glasses to protect your eyes. It’s all about protecting the eyes during this procedure! No laser hair removal near the eyes is a big no, no.
Contrasting to laser hair removal, waxing can be applied to the eyes and, of course, everywhere. Your esthetician has to be careful not to put really hot patches of wax so it won’t burn you.
Let’s resume all this information. Laser hair removal is cheaper than waxing in the long run and lasts longer, but it can be applied to areas that are close to the eyes. So, doing laser hair removal on the eyebrows it’s not recommended but for any part of the body, it’s completely safe. I guess laser hair removal wins this match. A big hooray for science!
